Global Connections Start Here With Our New York State Capital Region Community
International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)
More than 5,000 International Visitors come to the U.S. on the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) each year. More than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including over 330 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government. The International Center of the Capital Region is one of 90 Community Based Partners with the U.S. Department of State and their premier IVLP flagship program selected to host emerging international leaders.
Congressional Office of International Leadership Open World Program
The International Center of the Capital Region is an important partner of the Congressional Office of International Leadership Open World program. International delegates engage with Members of Congress and their staff to discuss common challenges. They then travel to communities across the United States, including the Greater Capital Region. Our Center coordinates and facilitates meetings with their professional counterparts in our region to share expertise and establish partnerships. During the program, delegates stay with our host families, giving them an authentic American experience.
Youth Programming
We work with Greater Capital Region high schools to bring international leaders from IVLP and Open World to world learning classes. With additional funding, we would like to expand this to all area schools to teach students about world affairs and being a global citizen. In 2024, we hosted the first Model UN conference. Area high school students participated.
As a Community-based Partner with the U.S. State Department’s Global Ties U.S. Network, we can uniquely connect and provide leadership development and professional resources.
The International Center of the Capital Region is dedicated to providing youth with programs and services that develop their leadership skills and teach them best practices in global citizenship and diplomacy
World Affairs Councils of America
The International Center of the Capital Region is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA). WACA is committed to engaging the public in foreign affairs and current events to foster a more informed electorate, promote civil discourse, and build community through events that bring people together. The WACA National Office partners with think tanks, foundations, NGOs, corporations, and occasionally government entities to arrange timely “national conversations.” We have been selected to host their Engage America Series.
