Lilly Miaw

Category 5: International Center of the Capital Region (ICCR) Volunteer

Lilly Miaw was born and raised in Taiwan. She immigrated to the United States to pursue advanced studies at Purdue University. In 1979, Lilly moved to the Capital Region to begin her career as a research chemist with GE Plastics in Selkirk.

Lilly has devoted hours to supporting local communities. She joined the Board of Directors of the Chinese Community Center (CCC) in 2004 and is a board member of Taiwanese American Cultural of Society (TACS), and in 2016 became a board member of ICCR, where she also served as the Finance Chair for two years until the end of 2025. 



During her tenure with the CCC, Lilly played a pivotal role in securing a CCC home, which serves as a unifying force for the community and a place to carry out community programs.

Lilly introduced voting systems within the CCC to those newly arrived from mainland China to become familiar with democratic election processes and participated in the US voter registration campaign.

In response to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China, she initiated a fundraiser of $200,000 to rebuild a school destroyed by the disaster. In 2009, she raised $50,000 to assist victims of Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Lilly organized efforts that raised $60,000, enabling the purchase and distribution of 128,000 PPE’s for first responders and local hospitals.

When ICCR faced severe financial challenges due to Covid-19 pandemic-related program cancellations, Lilly raised $5,000 to help sustain the organization during a critical period.
